As many tiny house enthusiasts know, tiny living is one of the greatest life decisions one can make. The opportunity to live simply with everything you need and nothing you don’t is truly invaluable. However, when it comes to tiny living, knowing how to best utilize the space is key. The smaller your tiny home, the more overwhelming it can feel if you don’t make the most out of the available space. Without further ado, here are some useful tips for living comfortably in a tiny house. 1. Stay Organized. Everything in a tiny house should have its place. It’s easier for a small space to look messy and disorganized if even a few things aren’t where they should be. A good rule of thumb is to always clean up one activity before starting the next (i.e. baking or other equally messy ventures). Luckily, cleaning up in a tiny home isn’t nearly as time-consuming as a three-bedroom residential home! 2. Utilize the Great Outdoors. Expand your living space by purchasing outdoor furniture to enjoy on warmer days. Another great option is by customizing a porch that can be folded against the side of your home, or one that can be built on the roof. This additional outdoor space is excellent for entertaining friends and family! 3. Think Multi-purpose. A smaller square-footage means you’re going to need to be thoughtful about the things you include in your tiny home. For instance, seating cubes make excellent additions because they can be arranged into a bed or used for storage. Another fun(ctional) idea is to chalkboard paint the underside of a dining table that folds up against the wall. You’ll have a great place to keep track of your food shopping list or to homeschool your kids! 4. Thoughtful Colors. While darker colors absorb light and make a space look smaller; light colors do the opposite. Lighter colors (think neutrals) open up the space and allow light to flood throughout the home. If the monochromatic color scheme isn’t your cup of tea; add pops of color in the form of rugs, curtains, or interesting artwork. 5. Use Your Walls. Keep your surfaces clear by making the most of the available wall space. Walls are a great place to hang your belongings because it reduces clutter and can be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. While it’s common to see hanging kitchen utensils, hanging pots and pans are also a smart solution for saving cupboard space. Another space saver is by using hanging lights instead of table lamps (this is particularly helpful in a tiny house on wheels). Do you have tiny living tips to share?
